Watch: The Boys spinoff Gen V story, release date, cast and inside the comic – here’s when The Boys spinoff Gen V comes to Amazon Prime
The school. The powers. And Vought… what could go wrong? The sci-fi world went bananas in July last year when Amazon Prime announced the all-new The Boys spin-off TV series, The Boys: Gen V, featuring none other than Arnie’s son Patrick Schwarzenegger as new Supe and everyone’s favourite for a new draft to the Seven, Golden Boy.
And now we finally have a new trailer and official September release date for Amazon’s The Boys spinoff, Gen V.
Watch: The New Gen V Teaser Trailer
We see protagonist Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), an ambitious and talented young Supe at Vought-funded Godolkin University’s School of Crimefighting, where tomorrow’s Supes are groomed. She seems to have what can only be described as “blood-bending” powers [sic] and aims to become the “first black woman on The Seven”.
But it’s a tough game because students here seem to use their powers to get their way. And she’s told that she has “a target on her back”.
In fact, Amazon describes the show as “The Hunger Games set at a University” so it seems that the main game for Marie will be surviving the ruthless competition – i.e. her fellow students – more than anything else.
But, you can clearly see a few of The Boys’ characters in the trailer, which means it doesn’t take place in isolation. In fact, Gen V is set to take place during the events of The Boys Season 3, and help set up Season 4 – with head-exploding presidential candidate Victoria Neuman and, of course, Homelander important characters to watch out for.
The good news? We get to watch it in a few short weeks…
Gen V Release Date
Gen V releases on Amazon’s Prime Video on 29 September 2023. It’s right there at the end of the trailer, and makes perfect sense since the show wrapped filming in September 2022, so exactly one year after (which also tells The Boys Season 4 will probably release January 2024, btw.)
What will Gen V be About?
They’re equally cryptic about the actual story. But we know Gen V is based on the original The Boys comic Volume 4: “We Gotta Go Now”, issues 23-30 (link to comic a little lower down). That story centres around the G-Men, a parody of the X-Men and Vought’s elite and best Superhero group (other than The Seven, of course).
In fact, one of the G-Men appeared in 2 episodes of The Boys Season 3 (episode 1 and 3). It was Silver Kincaid (a parody of Jean Grey from the X-Men) played by Jasmin Husain. In the comic, though, Vought employs The Boys to investigate the G-Men, and Hughie infiltrates them by pretending to be a college student – yes, do you see it now?!
See, the G-Men have a pre-hero team called the G-Wiz, a group of frat boys who are being trained to become the next G-Men. In the comics, Hughie infiltrates them to get to the G-Men.
Now, Gen V probably just took that concept a bit further and created Godolkin University – a Vought-run college for Supes, expanded on the idea by making it as if The Seven have always been drafting up-and-comers from Godolkin and Boom – there you have the set-up for Gen V.
In fact, The Boys gave that plot away on an official YouTube channel in January this year…

But Gen V is probably NOT the G-Wiz, but rather a new team. And we know some of them already…

Crazy that it’s being turned into a “cinematic universe” of sorts
A lot more crossover than I was expecting. Can’t wait for this!
